Basil’s Food Truck closes – The Owensboro Times

Basil’s Food Truck announced its closure today. Chef Cameron Anderson and Tatum Helm opened the food truck in January in a converted school bus.

Anderson and Helm said it was the best decision for them given their current situation and they appreciate the community’s support.

“This isn’t something I wanted to do – it’s definitely hard for me,” Anderson said. “It’s just the best thing I can do right now.”

After culinary school, Anderson worked for years in fine dining before returning home to start Camcooks4u with Helm in 2022. In total, he has more than 20 years of experience in the food industry.

Camcooks4u specialises in bespoke catering, while Basil’s offers “homemade food at an affordable price”. Basil’s also regularly sources produce, meat and other ingredients from local farmers.

He said it was always difficult to convince Owensboro of his innovative cooking style.

“I don’t plan on getting back into the food business anytime soon unless an opportunity presents itself,” he said. “I know we’ve prepared good, elegant food for people, and I’m proud of that.”

Anderson has started a career at Sun Windows, while Helm wants to focus on her career at Owensboro Radio.
