Zach Bryan deactivates Twitter and apologizes to Taylor Swift

Zach Bryan deactivated his Twitter/X account after “drunkenly” declaring he preferred Kanye West to Taylor Swift – but took to Instagram on Thursday morning to make amends.

The trouble began Tuesday night when Bryan, a vocal supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles (who lost to Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 Super Bowl), tweeted: “Eagles > Chiefs Kanye > Taylor who’s on my side.”

Unsurprisingly, the tweet sparked a tidal wave of angry Swifties. The backlash was so loud that Bryan explained in a follow-up tweet on Wednesday that he made his offensive statement “drunk” after reading Swift’s The Tormented Poets Section: The Anthology Song “Thank You Aimee”, a not so subtle dig at Kim Kardashian and her ex-husband Kanye West.

“Guys I love Taylor, listened to TTPD last night and thank you, Aimee came on and I was drunk tweeting about Kanye,” Bryan tweeted. “If anyone was serious please know that I love both artists very much and think we are in a really beautiful time in music.”

Despite this explanation, the damage was done and Bryan immediately deactivated his Twitter/X account, which was still unavailable on Thursday morning.

However, Bryan’s Instagram is still active and in his stories he published a long statement accompanied by aan audio clip of Swift’s “Fortnight” in which he tried to calm the situation.

“To the record people: I wasn’t here for Taylor the other day,” Bryan wrote. “I was drunk comparing two records and it came out wrong. I know there are a lot of things floating around Ye and I was speaking purely musically. I love Taylor’s music and pray you know I’m human and tweet stupid things a lot. Hopefully I can explain it to her one day.”

Commenting on his deactivation of X, Bryan wrote: “I get in trouble too often on Twitter and I’d say it’s best to stay out of it. I’m sorry to any Taylor fans I’ve upset or disappointed. I love you guys and I’m doing my best!”

In a follow-up story featuring the soundtrack of Swift’s “The Albatross,” Bryan added, “I was going through a rough time in my life and I think I was projecting a little bit. To be completely honest, it just came across as rude and desensitized to Taylor. I respect her so much as a musician that I definitely don’t want people to think I don’t appreciate and love what she’s done for music.”

In two more stories on Thursday morning, Bryan continued to praise Swift, “a force of nature since we all grew up and I admire that,” and confirmed his break from Twitter/X. “I’m going to take a break from tweeting stupid stuff, finish my tour, and kind of ground myself in the midst of all of this.”

And as Bryan reiterated, “Don’t drink while you tweet!!”
