After the Denver Broncos failed to score a touchdown in a 13-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix was asked what Pittsburgh’s defense was doing on defense that made it so difficult to move the ball.

“I don’t know,” Nix said after the game. “The film will tell us. I thought they had a good plan and executed it well. They just got to the ball and tackled. It was difficult for us to get third-and-manageables again. We can’t always just rely on that excuse. I think we have to start playing better. That starts with me and then goes to the rest of the team.”

Nix finished the game completing 20 of 35 passes for 246 yards, no touchdown passes and two interceptions. After the loss, Nix was asked if he was disappointed that he hadn’t improved more since his NFL debut last week.

“I don’t know if that’s necessarily the case,” Nix said of the lack of improvement. “I think when you go back and look at the film, I think I took a good step. Sometimes good steps don’t translate into wins, though. So it’s a long process. It’s a tough league for a reason. We just have to keep going as a team, as a group, find ways to get better and build and take steps. I have to do the same.”

Nix looks to take another step forward when Denver faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road in Week 3.
