Missouri State University takes action against underage drinking at first home game

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The parties are hot, college spirits are high and everyone is hoping for a big win, but with the fun comes the need for safety. So what is Missouri State University doing to keep the party safe?

“We’re looking for glass containers, things they’re not allowed to have. We have an area for our student section and then one for the adult section, and there will be drinks in both areas,” said Todd Revell of MSU security.

On Saturday, the Freudenberg Hall courtyard will be the kick-off area for students. There will also be extra patrols to make sure no one breaks the rules.

“We have staff monitoring the crowd to make sure there are no violations of the rules. Underage drinking is one of those violations,” Revell said.

Missouri State officials say the 12 officers and nearly 50 additional security guards will be spread out throughout, with some on command keeping an eye on everything that happens and others near the tailgating areas to make the games even safer than ever before.

“We try to improve after every game for the next game. And just like we did last year, we go into this year with all the knowledge we have from last year and the things we didn’t do right and the things we could do better,” he said.

When underage drinkers are caught, they not only have to deal with the school, but also with the police.

Before you leave tomorrow, there are a few things you should consider:

  1. You are only allowed to take a small bag with you and this may be searched.
  2. If you bring large bags, you may be turned away.
  3. In addition, no outside food or drinks are permitted in the stadium.
