Shane Beamer raves about the maturity and attitude of South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers

Preview and prediction for South Carolina vs. LSU

After two seasons with an experienced quarterback Spencer Rattlerthe keys of the South Carolina Attack was handed over to redshirt freshmen LaNorris SellerWho has the Gamecocks on a 2-0 start ahead of their big game this weekend against LSU.

In terms of experience and skills, Sellers is a very different player than Rattler. But while The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, head coach of South Carolina Shane Beamer showed that his 19-year-old signal giver is actually more mature than his age.

“It’s been good, LaNorris is very balanced. He’s not your typical redshirt freshman, he’s a very mature young man,” Beamer said. “Last year he redshirted and was able to play in a couple of games, but more importantly he was able to sit in the quarterback room with Spencer all year.”

Last season, Sellers not only had the opportunity to learn from one of the best quarterbacks in college football, but also the experience to prepare and travel with the team, something redshirt players don’t usually get to do. It clearly paid off after he completed 71.4% of his passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns in the Gamecocks’ 31-6 win over Kentucky on the way.

“We took him to every away game last year and he changed for every game. So of course he didn’t necessarily play as a starter very often. But he knows this environment and is not the type of person who lets the situation unsettle him,” explained Beamer. “He is very calm, confident and was fantastic.”

Sellers currently leads a young South Carolina team that has plenty of room to grow this season and beyond, and Saturday’s clash with a top-ranked opponent on one of college football’s biggest stages will serve as a proving ground for the Gamecocks.

“He’s going to continue to improve and we’re really young around him. I mean, we’re starting with a true freshman at left tackle. Three of our top five receivers weren’t even here in spring training. So there’s a lot of new faces around the LaNorris,” Beamer said. “He’s going to continue to improve, the offense around the LaNorris is going to continue to improve and I’m excited about his future here at Carolina as our quarterback.”

Sellers and the Gamecocks will face LSU on Saturday at noon ET, broadcast on ABC and streamed on Fubo.
