Less than a week after the Georgia shooting, a school in Houston was locked down

Less than a week after a fatal shooting in Georgia Apalachee High School in which two teachers and two students were killed, Hilltop Elementary School in Bonaire, Houston County, was cordoned off after a possible shooter was reported on school grounds.
The incident at Hilltop Elementary School occurred Wednesday afternoon during dismissal. Jennifer Jones, a spokeswoman for the Houston County School Districtsaid authorities were alerted to a possible shooter. Police quickly arrived on the scene and searched the school. Fortunately, no evidence of an armed person was found. “Police arrived immediately and after a thorough search, the school was evacuated and normal operations resumed,” Jones told WMaz Tv.
Following the search, the school was placed back on “Code Green,” meaning security was lifted and students were released under police supervision. A message was sent to parents informing them of the situation. Jones reassured the community, stating that the investigation was ongoing and updates would be provided as more information became available.
The curfew has raised concerns among parents and school officials, especially given the increase in school-related threats across Georgia since the tragedy at Apalachee High School. Jones said many districts have been dealing with an increase in threats, leading to increased security measures and, in some cases, school closures.
One mother expressed relief after the news of the curfew being lifted, but acknowledged that fear remains. “After what happened in Georgia last week, you never know how safe your children really are,” she told AP. The recent events underscore the growing unrest in schools, and districts across the country are facing increasing challenges in keeping students safe.
