ABC debate moderators spark anger over aggressive fact-checking of Trump and negligent treatment of Harris

ABC News faced harsh criticism from critics for its aggressive approach to former President Trump, in contrast to its gentle treatment of Vice President Kamala Harris during Tuesday’s presidential debate.

The Disney-owned network shocked the nation when its debate moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis repeatedly fact-checked Trump’s statements on a variety of issues, from crime and abortion to the former president’s previous comments on the 2020 election.

“The ABC anchors are fact-checking – wrong! – and doing so in such a shockingly one-sided way that it’s a victory that Trump is surviving the ambush so well,” reacted conservative radio host Buck Sexton. “This debate was a total farce, the questions are all attacks on Trump, it’s 3 against 1. Outrageous.”

“So when Trump doesn’t answer the question directly, ABC points it out. Kamala doesn’t answer ANY question directly and they let her off the hook,” emphasized Outkick host Tomi Lahren.

“These debate questions and moderation are breathtaking. Holy crap. I’m not exaggerating. This is unbelievable. Absolutely outrageous,” wrote Ruthless co-host Josh Holmes.

“The ABC News anchors are trying to make Candy Crowley look like a mute,” said author Jerry Dunleavy, referring to the CNN debate moderator who infamously attempted to fact-check Mitt Romney’s statements during the 2012 election.

“The wording of every single question was terrible. Every single one,” wrote Mollie Hemingway, editor in chief of the Federalist.

Some critics specifically pointed out Muir’s numerous disputes with Trump.

“David Muir criticizes and attacks Trump more than Kamala,” said journalist Glenn Greenwald. “Kamala can relax because the ABC moderators are conducting the debate for her.”

“David Muir is running a strong campaign for president,” joked author and activist Christopher Rufo.

Others targeted the network on a large scale.

“This was an absolute disaster for ABC’s credibility,” said Curtis Houck, editor in chief of NewsBusters.

“I’ve been telling you for years how much @ABC hates Republicans…” said former “The View” co-host Meghan McCain.

“3 against 1… That’s disgusting,” said Daily Caller correspondent Henry Rodgers.

“ABC/Disney did its best to help Vice President Harris. It’s astonishing how bad the hosting was,” wrote radio host Hugh Hewitt. “Trump could have decided the election and didn’t. But she’s so awful that she still couldn’t win, even though both hosts are so obviously and horribly biased. Neither won, but ABC/Disney lost half the country.”

However, the ABC presenters also received some praise from other representatives of the liberal media.

“The ABC anchors are doing an *excellent* job,” responded MSNBC anchor Chris Hayes.

“I have to say, the ABC anchors exceeded our expectations. They checked the facts and called them out. This shows how awful CNN was,” wrote Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin.

“Muir has a talent for delivering confrontational answers in a way that sounds like Bob Ross talking about adding a little magenta to a sunset,” said Glenn Thrush, a New York Times correspondent.

Meanwhile, Trump faced a lot of criticism for continually falling for the bait of Harris and the debate moderators.

“Ever since the comment about the crowd size, Kamala has been on his mind. Trump is taking the bait and getting worked up. It’s as simple as that,” said Puck News correspondent Tara Palmeri.

“Harris keeps throwing bait at Trump, wasting the first 20 seconds of his answer,” wrote Semafor reporter David Weigel.

“Donald Trump is taking every bait and doing what many commentators feared Vice President Harris would do,” MSNBC host Symone Sanders-Townsend said similarly.

“Trump is not doing what Harris is doing. He is avoiding his worst aspects and switching to his best or trying to throw Kamala off track. Instead, he is simply taking whatever bait Kamala throws at him and ignoring his own best issues,” wrote Breaking Points co-host Saagar Enjeti.

“You and I can scream all we want about the debate moderators, and they are actively trying to help Harris, but Trump agreed to the debate, fell for every bait, and ill-informed voters are watching that. His lack of discipline is helping Harris,” concluded conservative radio host Erick Erickson.
