Whoopi Goldberg shared an emotional tribute to her friend and Lion King Co-star James Earl Jones, shortly after the actor completed the Circle of Life.

“Before we go, we want to express our condolences to the family of James Earl Jones. He was one of the greatest,” Goldberg said before a commercial break, while co-host Joy Behar exclaimed that Jones was “the best” in his field.

“I was allowed to play with him in The Lion KingGoldberg continued, referring to her voice work in the popular 1994 film, in which Goldberg played a vicious hyena named Shenzi. “We just wanted to make sure we didn’t miss this opportunity to say we lost another phenomenally great actor.”
