Buccaneers cornerback taken away against Commanders

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers secondary is weakened and suffered an even bigger setback at the beginning of the second half.

The Buccaneers opened their season against the Washington Commanders on their home field. They finished the first half with a 17-6 lead against the Jayden Daniels-led team, with Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield putting in a brilliant performance.

Unfortunately for Tampa Bay, third-year cornerback Zyon McCollum suffered a concussion in the first half. Bryce Hall was then pushed into his position opposite Jamel Dean, but when the second half began, he was carried off the field with an aircast on his right ankle.

In an attempt to hold off the Commanders and maintain a lead in the second half, the Buccaneers lack depth at cornerback and the remaining players at that position are starting to get tired. It will be up to the pass rushers to step up, make some big plays and keep Daniels from letting the wide receivers make the decision.

Josh Hayes also suffered an ankle injury, leaving Dean as the only cornerback healthy for the game. The Buccaneers had three of the four cornerbacks who were scheduled to play the game injured.

The offense must dominate possession and give the defense enough breaks in the second half of the game.
