Giants HC Brian Daboll could try to push QB Daniel Jones

It is believed that head coach Brian Daboll resume his role He will serve as the New York Giants’ primary offensive playmaker in their season opener this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings because he should “knows what could happen if things go wrong” by week 18.

Current NFL analyst and former Most Valuable Player Boomer Esiason believes Daboll will not shy away from giving quarterback Daniel Jones a dressing down if he makes avoidable mistakes, starting with the game against Minnesota.

“I think with Brian Daboll as playmaker … you saw a snippet of that in Preseason game against (the Houston Texans last month),” Esiason said during Friday’s edition of the WFAN show “Boomer and Gio,” as reported by Ryan Chichester of Audacy. “I think he’s going to be really aggressive, go full throttle and be right on Daniel Jones’ heels. I think that’s a good thing. I think that’s exactly what Daniel needs.”

Daboll went viral in his official debut for the Giants in September 2022, when he famously jumped in Jones’ face after the signal-caller threw a terrible interception. Big Blue came from behind to win the game, later securing both a playoff berth and a road win in the postseason (against none other than the Vikings).

Daboll has reportedly displayed a quieter personality from the start of spring training through the end of training camp in August. Esiason believes Daboll could turn back the clock two years on Sunday afternoon.

“I think Brian is going to get on his nerves,” Esiason said of Daboll’s handling of Jones. “He’s going to put pressure on him and try to get the best out of him. He’s not going to allow him to have those dips in form during the game.”

While Daboll is apparently on the hot seat, some members of the NFL community are convinced that Giants general manager Joe Schoen will spend the months leading up to his can escape Jones’ contract next offseason. Such realities could lead to Daboll doing whatever he feels necessary to try light a fire under the 27-year-old signalman during the games.

“Some guys go through three or four three-down series,” Esiason added, “and then they come to the sideline, sit down, get a Gatorade, look at the tablet, put their helmet on and go back on the field. Brian Daboll is not going to let that happen.”

Since Friday afternoon DraftKings Sports Betting listed the Giants as 1.5-point underdogs for Sunday’s game against the Vikings. Perhaps Daboll will use that information as bulletin board material to motivate Jones and others in the locker room ahead of what could be a pivotal season.
