Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins (MCL) plays against the Bears

CHICAGO – Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins will play in the season opener against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Hopkins suffered a torn medial collateral ligament on July 31 that sidelined him until his return to practice on Wednesday.

Hopkins is active after being listed as questionable on the injury report and participated in limited practice on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

He said it was “a great feeling” to be back on the field after practice Thursday. Hopkins traveled to California to begin his recovery process before returning to Nashville last week.

“As far as I know, everything has healed as it should so far,” Titans coach Brian Callahan said on Friday. “I don’t think there are any more injuries to worry about than originally.”

Hopkins wore tights on his left leg on Thursday but trained without additional support on Friday.

The Titans will start six wide receivers, including Hopkins, since they did not sign any wideouts from the practice squad this week. It is highly unlikely that Hopkins will play the entire game against Chicago.

“With any player coming back from an injury or an extended absence, you’re smart,” Callahan said. “Requiring a player to play an entire game, every snap, is a tough ask. You should at least try to have a plan to rotate him sufficiently.”
