Shots fired near church festival in Maryland Heights, four people in custody

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Missouri – Authorities are investigating after shots were fired near a church carnival in Maryland Heights Saturday night.

Maryland Heights police report that no one was injured and four people are in custody following the shooting.

According to police, shots were fired around 9:30 p.m. in a park across the street from the Holy Spirit Catholic Church carnival.

Maryland Heights police posted on Facebook shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday: “We want to reassure everyone that the incidents that occurred at or near the Holy Spirit Carnival pose no threat to our community.”

According to police, it was decided around 9 p.m. to cancel the fair for the evening because there were “too many people and numerous fights.”

Maryland Heights Police are requesting assistance from several surrounding agencies in crowd control and evacuation from the area. Police responded quickly after learning of gunshots, resulting in the arrest of four people of unknown age.

“The safety of our community is always our top priority and we remain committed to the safety of our community,” Maryland Heights police said in a Facebook post.

Holy Spirit Catholic Church is located at 3130 Parkwood Lane. Saturday was the second night of an annual carnival event.
