    The UTEP Miners football team begins its home stretch against Southern Utah a week after both teams struggled in competition at the highest level.

    This will be the first Sun Bowl game for Scotty Walden in his first year as UTEP head coach after his time at Austin Peay. Last year, his Peay team beat Southern Utah in double overtime, so Walden and 11 players who transferred with him know and respect the Thunderbirds.

    SUU has been waiting for its first win against an FBS team since 2013, while UTEP hasn’t lost to an FCS team since losing to Northern Arizona in 2018.
