Oklahoma State quarterback Alan Bowman says Arkansas gave the Cowboys ‘bulletin board’ material and talks about unsportsmanlike penalty killing

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State quarterback Alan Bowman said the Cowboys had material for the bulletin board before Saturday’s 39-31 double-overtime win over Arkansas.

In a preseason interview, Arkansas defensive back Marquise Robinson, who transferred from South Alabama, recalled the Jaguars’ 33-7 victory over Oklahoma State last season. In that game, Robinson, nicknamed “Cuddie,” had a 24-yard interception return.

“The first thing I remember when I think about that game is that I should have scored,” Robinson said on Aug. 17. “That’s the first thing. But the second thing is just overall coming back for another year and knowing that they know Cuddie is coming back. … I feel like when we come back this time, it’s going to be a dominance.”

Bowman was asked if he had heard the comments.

“Oh, yeah,” Bowman said. “It was on the bulletin board. I mean, we looked at the offense before every unit meeting. We had everything scripted. I can tell you word for word what he said, but he didn’t trick us.

“We were a little sad that he didn’t play, you know, because I think we were prepared for him. We wanted to play him, but yeah, he didn’t play… They didn’t dominate. No, they didn’t. And they lost.”

Bowman was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct early in the fourth quarter after throwing a 36-yard pass to Brennan Presley. As he ran down the sideline, he looked toward the Arkansas sideline and pointed his fingers toward the bench.

“You would think that being an older player, I would be more composed,” Bowman said. “But I mean, you play this game, it’s so competitive, and you’re so fired up about it. And you make a great play, and I just looked up and the whole sideline was staring at me, and I should have just turned around and celebrated with my teammates, but I had to give him something.

The play pushed Oklahoma State to Arkansas’ 6-yard line, but the penalty pushed the Cowboys back to the 21-yard line. Oklahoma State had to settle for a field goal.

“That could have potentially cost us the game,” Bowman said. “It’s all funny now and … that stuff is everywhere (on social media), but it would be a whole different story if we lost. So, that’s not going to happen to me again.”
