Eagles – Packers Friday Night Football open thread

If the Atlanta Falcons want to make a big splash in the postseason this year, they’ll likely have to face the Philadelphia Eagles, the Green Bay Packers, or both, making this rare Friday primetime game a must-see for Falcons fans.

It’s also the first NFL game in South America, as the two teams will be playing in Sao Paulo, Brazil. That means it’s a truly neutral field and we’ll see which of these potential NFC contenders comes out on top with a win.

The Eagles are coming off a humiliating 2023 season, which seems like an odd statement for a team that was the second seed in the NFC. It’s true, though, because after a 10-1 start, Philadelphia experienced a massive fall, losing five of its final six regular-season games and then getting crushed by the Buccaneers in the playoffs. That late-season slump led to rumors that they might fire the coaching staff and necessitated a soul-searching about the unfortunate breakdowns on offense and the poor state of the defense, something the team hopes to fix with a productive offseason.

The Packers finished the season 9-8, but had quite a promising year with Jordan Love as their new franchise quarterback. They also beat the Cowboys in the playoffs before losing a hard-fought game to the 49ers, showing a level of determination and talent that bodes well for them this season. They hope to take the NFC North from the Lions, starting with a win over Philadelphia.

The game starts at 8:15 p.m. ET and is only available on Peacock, so if you want to watch it, make sure you have a subscription.
