71-year-old Harris County woman who was reported missing was found safe after a search in Gonzales County

GONZALES COUNTY, Texas – A 71-year-old woman reported missing from Harris County has been found safe after a search in Gonzales County.

The Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office said around 7 p.m. Tuesday it received a report that a vehicle had left the roadway in bushes in the 7100 block of East State Highway 97.

When officers arrived, they found the vehicle, but no one was inside. As they investigated, they learned the vehicle belonged to a 71-year-old woman who had been reported missing out of Harris County.

Officers checked the area as best they could, but as darkness fell they called for additional resources to conduct a larger search.

Texas DPS, the Gonzales Fire Department and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens responded to assist and brought a UTV and drone to assist in the search.

The Texas Department of Emergency Management also arrived to provide all needed resources.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice sent two sniffer dogs from the Travis County State Prison upon request.

After a lengthy search on the ground and in the air, the woman was found in a dense wooded area at around 2:05 a.m. on Wednesday. The sheriff’s office said they were alert and had spoken with rescuers.

“Gonzales EMS took her to Gonzales Memorial Hospital for evaluation and her family was informed that she was safe,” the sheriff’s office said.
