7,000 albums were ruined at Seattle’s famed Easy Street Records

Employees at Easy Street Records are in cleanup mode this weekend after a burst pipe in their building damaged the popular store.

A pipe burst overnight in an apartment above the store in West Seattle, damaging thousands of items. The store is doing well, with a Jelly Roll listening party scheduled for Sunday evening at 5 p.m

So far, the owner says there has been $200,000 in damage, including at least 7,000 records, two dozen hoodies and tote bags lost to water damage.

The owner, Matt Vaughn, told West Seattle Blog he has suffered “much worse” water damage to the store in the last 36 years. He added how grateful he was to the community who helped clean up most of the store, except for a few fans and tarps on the sales floor.

In a post on Instagram on Sunday, the Easy Street Records account said, among other things:

“Please be patient: our store may be looking a bit chaotic at the moment as a pipe burst in the building the other night… Thank you for your support. Kind regards, Easy Street”

Easy Street Records has been a West Seattle staple for decades. Hosting shows on stage and in the restaurant area of ​​the store. Legends like Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder come to the store for events.

Back in April, Vedder appeared at Easy Street ahead of Record Store Day to promote his latest album.
