6-Banner Sunday: Women announce non-conference schedule, look at key offseason storylines – Inside the Hall

Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production of The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we highlight the five most important IU basketball stories from the past week and also take a look at how the other IU athletic programs are faring.

From a news perspective, it was a relatively quiet week for IU basketball. However, the women’s team announced its nonconference schedule on Thursday.

In addition, Inside the Hall has released more roster previews for the upcoming 2024-2025 season. In addition, a recruiting update, Hoosiers in the pros and weekly shows round out the first five banners. As usual, Banner 6 will conclude with a look at other sports in Indiana, led by women’s soccer, which opened its season with a win.

Here’s what’s in this week’s edition:

• Women announce extra-conference schedule
• Men’s basketball offseason storylines
• Updated recruitment panel for 2025
• Cupps and Parrish have NIL appearance
• Podcast about the edge, broadcasts of the Back Home Network
• Hoosier Summary

The IU men’s basketball team will play several games on Peacock next season, and the women’s team will also play some games, making the streaming service indispensable for IU basketball fans. Banner No. 1 – Women announce extra-conference schedule

While the men’s non-league schedule was released several weeks ago, the women announced theirs this week. Like their male counterparts, the highlight of the schedule is a trip to the Bahamas for Battle 4 Atlantis, but for them it runs from November 23-25, not the 27-29. The women’s field includes Ball State, Baylor, Columbia, North Carolina, Southern Miss, Texas A&M and Villanova.

The other notable matchups are an away game at Butler on November 13 and a rematch against Stanford in Bloomington four days later. Regulars Yarden Garzon, Chloe Moore-McNeil and Sydney Parrish return.

However, they must replace arguably the best player in the program’s history with the departure of Mackenzie Holmes, who is now working as a graduate manager. Sharpshooter Sara Scalia’s eligibility has also expired, but she has a replacement with a similar skill set in Shay Ciezki, who transferred from Penn State. The ability of former Tennessee Vols center Karoline Striplin and former backup Lily Meister to replace Holmes at the position will determine the team’s potential.

Banner #2 – Men’s Basketball Offseason Storylines

Inside the Hall (ITH) continued its preview of the upcoming season, taking an in-depth look at the players, including incoming freshman Bryson Tucker, rising sophomore Gabe Cupps, rising senior Trey Galloway, senior transfer from Arizona Oumar Ballo and senior transfer from Illinois and Indiana native Luke Goode.

Banner No. 3 – Updated Recruitment Board 2025

As is typical during the summer, a few new additions to the 2025 class came to light this week. Most notable was the announcement that top-40 center Eric Reibe will visit Bloomington Oct. 4-6. One top target who won’t be a Hoosier, however, is Malachi Moreno, who committed to his home-state Kentucky Wildcats on Friday.

However, as was the case for the upcoming 2024-2025 season, the portal will also play an important role in assembling the squad for 2025-2026. ITH has also updated its recruitment list for 2025.

Banner No. 4 – Cupps and Parrish make NIL appearance

NIL opportunities for athletes have continued to grow in recent seasons, with the most recent example coming Saturday in Fort Wayne.

Gabe Cupps and Parrish showed up with a company they work with for NIL, called Scheerer McCulloch Auctioneers, and both stopped by yesterday to meet and greet fans.

It capped off a busy week for Parrish, who also served as BTN+’s pitchside reporter for Thursday’s women’s soccer match (see results below).

Banner No. 5 – Podcast on the Brink, broadcast by the Back Home Network

Podcast on the Brink returned this week with a new episode featuring Brian Fonseca discussing the prospects for the highly anticipated Rutgers team for the upcoming 2024-2025 season.

The Back Home Network also aired twice this week. Both shows featured women’s basketball with Austin Render’s Dribble Drive podcast and Doing The Work.
