50,000 Oasis tickets canceled due to violation of purchase conditions | oasis

Ticketmaster will cancel around 50,000 tickets for Oasis’ reunion tour dates in the UK and Ireland in the coming weeks for breaching the company’s terms and conditions, the BBC reports.

The tickets in question are offered for sale on unofficial secondary websites such as Viagogo – unlike the official resale partner Twickets, where tickets can only be resold at face value. Organizers Live Nation – part of Ticketmaster – and SJM told the BBC that 4% of tickets sold – almost 50,000 – ended up on resale sites.

Billboard reported that event organizers said the affected tickets were purchased using prohibited techniques, including purchasing more than four tickets per household per show, using multiple identities to purchase tickets, and using VPN services and multiple credit cards.

All voided tickets will be resold at face value on Ticketmaster, giving a glimmer of hope to the 10 million fans from 158 countries who vied for the 1.4 million tickets originally on sale for next summer’s dates.

A spokesman for the organizers did not confirm whether the resale would be subject to dynamic pricing, the practice of increasing prices based on demand that led to controversy surrounding the original sale – and was later scrapped for international sales for dates in North and South America .

In a statement, Ticketmaster said its terms and conditions were largely successful in protecting the tour from unlawful resale, considering that for some major tours up to 20% of tickets can appear on unauthorized secondary ticket sales sites.

“The review of ticket sales is ongoing and the results will be forwarded to relevant law enforcement authorities as appropriate,” it said, urging fans not to purchase tickets from unauthorized websites as they could be fraudulent or subject to cancellation. Fans who believe their tickets have been canceled in error should contact the appropriate agent.

Viagogo told the BBC that it would still sell tickets for the tour. Matt Drew, from business development at Viagogo, told BBC Radio’s File on 4: “2% of Oasis tickets are available on Viagogo and StubHub. We will continue to sell them as the regulator requires. We are serving a clear consumer need and will continue to do so.”

Cast and Richard Ashcroft were recently confirmed to be supporting Oasis on their UK and Ireland dates.

This article was updated on October 29, 2024. A spokesman for the promoter did not confirm whether the resale tickets would be subject to dynamic pricing, not for the band as previously mentioned.
