5 Things – Flames @ Bruins

They need an equally gutsy performance tonight, the kind of performance that defined Calgary’s success earlier in the season.

All in an effort to continue building on the momentum achieved on Tuesday night, according to head coach Ryan Huska.

“You always feel better after you win a game,” Huska said Wednesday after an upbeat practice at Warrior Ice Arena. “But I thought today it was important to keep moving. We haven’t had as much practice time as we would have liked, and even if it’s just a shorter run, I think it’s good to just capture some memories, but also keep the engines running a little bit. “

Calgary fought — and persevered — despite having just 11 forwards at its disposal on Tuesday night. Anthony Mantha left the game with a lower-body injury and was unable to run on Wednesday, meaning Martin Pospisil earned extra time in a session with Jonathan Huberdeau and Yegor Sharangovich, with whom he trained again before today’s contest.

It’s also something of a homecoming for Matt Coronato.

The Long Island native was the overtime hero two nights ago and returns to Massachusetts for his first game as an NHL player after two college seasons at Harvard.

Wednesday’s practice day included a plan to visit old friends, and no doubt this return to Boston brings back many important memories.

“You know, when I was in school, I wanted to continue to improve as a player, but also try to enjoy my time in college,” Coronato explained Wednesday. “I think I did. I’m grateful to have had this experience.”

And although Coronato has never played in the NHL in Boston before, he did skate at the TD Garden, an experience he considers one of his most important memories from two seasons with the Crimson.

“We lost in a shootout, which wasn’t fun,” Coronato recalled. “But the atmosphere and playing at the Beanpot was great.”

The atmosphere will be a little different: similar to Montreal, it is steeped in the history of the Original 6, among fans whose enthusiasm is not often matched across the NHL scene.

But this Flames group has already found ways to win in difficult environments this season: Vancouver, Edmonton and Montreal, to name a few.

We won’t have to wait much longer to see if they’ll be able to ruin a party in Boston once again.
