According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, the Florida State football team has the 17th best recruiting class in the 2025 cycle. The Seminoles coaching staff is looking to add more talent to the program.

Florida State missed out on some talent in recruiting, such as four-star linebacker Tavion Wallace, who chose the Arkansas Razorbacks. That’s the reality of college football recruiting. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

On Monday afternoon, the Seminoles suffered another recruiting failure when Class of 2025 five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty from Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, Georgia, decided to pledge to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

This is seen as a loss for Florida State here, as Petty has long been the Seminoles’ favorite. His sister even attends a school in the Tallahassee area. The family environment was even something that attracted the Georgia native.

The Yellow Jackets threw the offensive lineman the “hometown hero” pitch because he wanted to emphasize academics and take the program to new heights. That puts Florida State in a bad position for other targets, as there aren’t too many highly touted talents they value highly right now.

Florida State already has five-star Solomon Thomas and four-star Peyton Joseph in their ranks as offensive linemen. They have talented young players on the offensive line. It would have been nice to add another talented player on the offensive line since current players like Maurice Smith, Darius Washington, Jeremiah Byers, etc. are graduating after the 2024 season.

Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins has recruited some really good players to join the coaching staff. There are talented young players on the offensive line that are exciting to watch, such as Lucas Simmons, Andre Otto, Jaylen Early, Julian Armella and Jonathan Daniels.

I wouldn’t recommend panicking now. There’s still a long way to go before the Early Signing Period in December. Petty might even reconsider if Florida State has the season it expects and if the Seminoles beat the Yellow Jackets in Ireland.
