3 charged with cell phone theft after police chase in Toms River

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Three people arrested following a chase and crash in Toms River Tuesday have been charged with theft after police say they stole a cellphone package from a FedEx driver, Toms River police said Wednesday.

Santo Felizcruz, 20, Edwin Noboabelen, 18, and a 17-year-old were arrested Tuesday night, Police Chief Mitch Little said.

Sergeant Michael Gallipoli was investigating a FedEx driver’s report of the theft of a cell phone package on Cedar Grove Road when Gallipoli saw the car described as being involved in the theft on Indian Hill Road, Little said.

The car took off at a high rate of speed, Little said, but collided with a car parked in front of a home on Shenandoah Boulevard. The three occupants of the car got out and fled, but were later found on Port-au-Prince Street, about three-quarters of a mile away, the police chief said.

The investigation revealed that all three were involved in the cell phone theft, Little said.

Felizcruz was charged with escape, theft, conspiracy, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest by fleeing, according to the Ocean County Corrections website. He is being held pending a detention hearing.

Noboabelen has been charged with theft, conspiracy, obstruction of justice and resisting state authority by escape, according to the prison website. He is also being held in custody.

The 17-year-old was taken to the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center, Little said.
