2025 NHL Draft Diary: Porter Martone

I feel like we have a very strong group in Brampton and we set our expectations very high at the start of the season. Those expectations are to be the last team standing and win it all. I don’t know if there’s pressure; I think we know we have a team that can do it and I think it’s just our mentality to bring it every day, day in and day out.

I haven’t really set any personal goals. I definitely want to be drafted as high as possible, but I think I’m just more focused on team success and trying to come out every night and win games and get into the playoffs. I think if that happens, it will contribute to the individual success of everyone in our room.

My current linemates are Angus MacDonell and Carson Rehkopf. I feel like we’re a really strong line. MacDonell is a hard worker. He is good in the corners and can score goals. He is very good in front and sees the ice very well. As you know, Rehkopf scored 52 goals last season, so he’s a pure goalscorer, but that’s not all. He is a versatile 200-foot player who can see the ice very well and look for people in the net.

Outside of hockey, our family has a holiday home near Peterborough, so I’m on the water there almost every weekend in the off-season. There are lots of water sports, 4×4 riding and I just love being outside and spending time with the family.

As far as the 2025 NHL Draft goes, I hope I can have a good year, but success is built and achieved through team success and how far we go. We have to stay focused if we want to hopefully get into the playoffs and just keep winning games.

Thank you for reading this month. I will provide an update in November.
