2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon: 50,000 runners ready for the 46th annual 26.2-mile run through the city’s neighborhoods

CHICAGO (WLS) – It is the day when athletes have trained for hundreds, if not thousands, of hours. The 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

50,000 athletes will run through 29 Chicago neighborhoods on Sunday.

The race starts and ends in Grant Park.

Many athletes also run to support various charities.

In fact, last year alone more than $30 million was raised by runners for more than 200 organizations.

The first wave of athletes starts promptly at 7:30 a.m

Cris Colon, a Chicago firefighter, said he is running the 2024 Chicago Marathon to raise money for fallen firefighters.

Last year Kelvin Kiptum finished the marathon in 2:00:35 for a total pace of 2:52 minutes per kilometer

He broke the marathon world record. Unfortunately, Kiptum died in a car accident in Kenya in February.

There will be a minute’s silence in honor of Kiptum before the start of the race.
