2 Thornton officers shot in standoff have ‘non-life-threatening injuries’: PD

THORNTON, Colo. — Two Thornton police officers who were shot during an altercation with a suspect in a residential area Wednesday morning were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the police department’s interim chief.

A suspect in the standoff was also pronounced dead at the home in the 1600 block of Columbine St., near York St. and 128th Ave. explained.

Officers responded to the scene just before 9 a.m. and police announced about half an hour later that two officers had been “struck by gunfire.” According to police, there was “no longer any danger” in the area as of 10:37 a.m.

All emergency warnings issued from a very active accident scene that had been active for almost two hours have been canceled.

Interim Deputy Chief Greg Reeves said in a news conference shortly before 11 a.m. that the injured officers were being treated at a nearby hospital.

During the operation, more than two dozen police vehicles, including SWAT and other tactical vehicles, lined the surrounding streets. A drone helped search the house for a suspect, police said.

As the police announced, a rescue helicopter arrived on site shortly before 10 a.m. as a precaution.

Denver7 has multiple teams on scene working to learn more about the events leading up to the shooting.
