The 19-year-old Walmart employee found dead in the store’s walk-in oven in Canada was discovered by her mother, who also worked there, according to a fundraiser for the family.

According to a fundraiser organized on behalf of the family by the Maritime Sikh Society in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the teenager was identified as Gursimran Kaur.

“On October 19th, the fateful Saturday evening, she was found burned in the walk-in oven of the Walmart Bakery,” the fundraiser states.

Halifax Regional Police said they were called to the Walmart at 6990 Mumford Rd. at 9:30 p.m. and found the young woman’s body in a “large walk-in oven in the bakery section of the store.”

According to the fundraiser, Kaur and her mother had worked at Walmart for two years.

That evening, Kaur’s mother tried to find her after not seeing her for an hour. She asked around and tried to call her to no avail.

“Mom panicked as it was unusual for (Kaur) to turn off her phone during the day,” the fundraiser states. “Imagine the horror her mother experienced when she opened the oven herself.”

Authorities said Tuesday that the cause and manner of death have not yet been confirmed and the investigation is ongoing.

Kaur and her mother are originally from India, the Maritime Sikh Society said. Her father and brother are in India and the organization is trying to bring them to Canada.

To date, the fundraiser has raised over $75,000 Canadian dollars for the family.

Walmart told NBC News on Wednesday that the store was closed until further notice. Nova Scotia’s Ministry of Labor, Skills and Immigration also said it issued a stop-work order Tuesday for the bakery and a piece of equipment at the store.

“We are heartbroken and our deepest thoughts are with our associate and his family,” a Walmart spokesperson said in a statement. “Our focus remains on looking after our employees and ensuring they receive the support they need.”
