15-year-old girl arrested after bringing gun to school: HCSO

According to the sheriff’s office, a 15-year-old Armwood High School student was arrested after a handgun was found in her book bag.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), a HCSO deputy received a tip around 11 a.m. Wednesday that the teen may be in possession of a weapon.

After a school administrator searched her backpack, officers said they found a handgun.

The teen is now reportedly charged with possession of a firearm as a minor and possession of a firearm on school property.

“It is heartbreaking and completely unacceptable that any student would ever bring a weapon onto school grounds. Actions like these create unnecessary fear and undermine the trust and safety we strive to build in our schools every day,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We remain committed to our commitment to ensuring the safety of our students and staff and will continue to address such incidents with the seriousness they deserve.”
