#11 Volleyball games – Best ranking since 2019

OMAHA, Neb. – A title at the Bluejay Invitationals with three sweeps helped the Creighton volleyball team rise one spot to No. 11 in this week’s AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll, released Monday, Sept. 2. The ranking matches CU’s best finish since spending four weeks in the top 10 in 2019, as the program also finished No. 11 once each in 2022 and 2023.

The Bluejays are one of 15 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have earned a ranking in each of the last 47 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the last 117 weeks that the AVCA has conducted a top-25 poll and 125 times in program history, which ranks 41st all-time. Creighton has an overall ranking of 204-45 when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.

CU’s best ranking in program history is No. 7, achieved in the poll released on August 28, 2017. This is the 13th consecutive season that Creighton has spent at least one week in the top 25.

Creighton’s BIG EAST rival Marquette came in at No. 24 and is one of six Bluejay opponents in this week’s poll. The Bluejays play non-conference games against No. 2 Nebraska (Sept. 10), No. 4 Louisville (Sept. 15), No. 8 Purdue (Sept. 20), No. 13 Kansas (Sept. 21) and No. 20 USC (Sept. 5).

Texas, which won the national championship two times in a row, topped the poll, finishing just ahead of Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Louisville and Stanford.

Creighton returns to DJ Sokol Arena on Thursday at 6 p.m. when it faces No. 20 USC (2-0). The game will be televised nationally on FS1 and heard locally on 1180 The Zone.
