#10 Purdue Falls in 5-seed heartbreaker at #2 Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The No. 10 Purdue volleyball team tied the No. 2 Nebraska Cornhuskers, losing extra points in the fifth set 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 15-17. The Boilermakers nearly claimed their biggest win since 2011, but their serving proved to be their Achilles’ heel as they suffered 19 service errors in the game.

The Boilermakers took a 15-14 lead in the fifth set after an assisted block Raven Colvin And Kenna Wollardbut the Huskers responded with a 3-0 run to decide the game. Purdue went error-free in the fifth set, recording 13 kills and a .481 clip.

The Boilermakers’ efficiency shined, hitting .311% overall in the game while holding the Huskers to .242% and outscoring the home team 15-5. It was a Big Ten season high for the Boilermaker block.

Eva Hudson posted a double-double behind a season-high 26 kills and 15 digs. The junior led the offense, hitting .349 (26-4-63). In the meantime, Chloe Chicoine totaled a season-high 22 kills, as well as a season-high 13 digs at a .327 clip (22-4-55) and a season-high 5 assists.

setter Taylor Anderson rounded out the double-doubles with 52 assists, 10 digs, 7 blocks and flawless three kills on four attempts to lead the team and produced Purdue’s only service ace.

Raven Colvin led the block with a total of 11 players that evening.


In the fifth set alone there were 13 draws and four lead changes and a total of 40 draws in the game.

With this result, Purdue suffered its fourth loss of the season, all against top-10 opponents, as the team moves to 12-4 (3-2 Big Ten). Meanwhile, Nebraska improves to 15-1 (5-0 Big Ten).


Purdue travels to Iowa tonight and will play again tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET.
