ATLANTA – One person was killed and another injured in a shooting near Morehouse College on Election Day.

On Tuesday afternoon, officers were called to a gas station at the corner of Sells Avenue SW and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard SW, across from Harvey Stadium on the Morehouse College campus.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, up to ten people were in a verbal altercation at the BP gas station. At some point, several people drew their weapons and began shooting at each other.

An 18-year-old was taken to an area hospital in critical condition but died.

A 14-year-old was also injured and was in critical condition.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation, but police believe the shooting began as an argument.

Witnesses told FOX 5 they saw someone being taken into custody. Police confirmed that one person was in custody.

The names and ages of the two people shot have not been released, nor is there any evidence that they refer to anyone at the Atlanta University Center.

According to police, officers believed that most, if not all, of the people involved in the altercation were armed.
